History of organization
Public Fund "Mehr-Shavkat" was found in 1996 by a group of women activists in Aravan district, Osh oblast. In December of 1997 the organization was registered at Ministry of Jusitce of Kyrgyz Republic. The objective of organization is to support and improve life conditions of poor segements of society. The name of the nongovernmental organization conveys its mission, "Mehr-Shavkat" means "Help from the bottom of heart"
The program of NGO intends to address and solve problems of rural poverty. Aravan village, where "Mehr-Shavkat" was found and functions, is located 25 kilometers from oblast center. The village is densely populated place where approximately 101000 people live (2005 population census) Initially, Mehr-Shavkat satrted its work as women's organization with purpose of charity and protecting women, therefore women played key roles at development of the organization. In its activities, the organization pays attention not only to problems of women but also cares about solving problems of families, villages and region. Activities of Mehr-Shavkat are directed towards development of communities, especially activating women, as wellbeing and peace in family and society depends on women to a great degree.
Mission of ogranization
Mission of organization is to strengthen and activate socially vulnerable and poor segments of population for eliminating poverty and improving life conditions by:
- Improving awareness of people
- Creation of geograpically generalized Self Help Groups, uniting them into federations and organizing village committees and solving problems
- Conducting lobbying activities
- Proptecting rights of low income families
- Improving life conditions by providing micro-credits
- Integrated development of communities
Strategy
In order to reach improvement in living conditions of people, they should be willing to improve their living conditions - this is the most difficult and the most essential part of NGO's work. Activing people by principle of "Help yourself", "Your destiny is in your hands", "Together we are power", development and introduction crediting program accessable for low income segments of society. In future we want to be become and organization which supports development of all indigenous communities.
Policy
The activities of the organization are completely transparent, as it acts according to principle of "from grassroots to up" - from villlage dwellers to Self Help Groups, from SHGs to Federations, from Federations to NGO.
Structure
Since its date of creation, the organization has been improving and strengthening its own structure. At present the organization has its own board of directors, the executive body, the audit commision. In addition to these, the organization has been engaged in development of new organization - Micro Crediting Agency "Mehr Shavkat Sakhovaty", network of SHG, secondary organizations, such as federations and village committees.
Activities
Since the date of its creation, PF "Mehr-Shavkat" has been working in sphere of Non-Governmental Organizations more than 15 years and conducts multipurpose and various works for development of communities by mobilizing them in order to reach its mission and aims of organization for decreasing poverty and improving life conditions of poor segements of population.
